Linking Documents to Alter Actions

Workspace attachment allows you to connect any of your existing Alter workspaces to custom actions, providing the AI with relevant context from your files, folders, and documentation when executing the action.

Getting Started

Access the Action Editor

1. Open Alter
2. Click on the three dots in the top right corner
3. Select “Action Editor”

Enable Workspace Attachment

1. In the Action Editor, look for the “Advanced” section of an Alter Action
2. Find the “Workspace” option
3. Choose from any of your existing workspaces to attach to the action

Practical Examples

Example 1: Newsletter Generation

Use Case: Automatically generate newsletters using previous editions as context

Setup:

1. Create a workspace containing examples of previous newsletters
2. Create an Alter action for newsletter generation
3. Attach the newsletter workspace to this action

Workflow:

1. Record your ideas for the newsletter (audio memo)
2. Right-click the audio file and select “Add to Alter”
3. Alter automatically transcribes the audio
4. Invoke your newsletter generation action
5. The AI uses both your transcript and previous newsletter examples to generate the new content

Example 2: Customer Support

Use Case: Automatically answer customer questions using your documentation

Setup:

1. Create a workspace with your product documentation
2. Create a customer support Alter action
3. Attach the documentation workspace to this action

Workflow:

1. Select a customer question (text selection)
2. Use the global shortcut to invoke your support action
3. The AI automatically loads your documentation and provides an accurate answer
4. Use quick actions like “Insert” to automatically replace the question with the answer
